Paint Your Dream

Kusasa Paints has a swimming pool renovation contracting division that will renovate stained and rough surfaces of marblelite constructed swimming pools only. If you experience any one of the following problems with your swimming pool you would need to consider using our services.

NO FUSS - NO MESS – NO DELAYS

We will apply a 2 part white cement based coating that is totally compatible with the originally applied marblelite. In addition to the fact that our coating is compatible with all previously other characteristics include:

  • The coating has been pigmented brilliant white thereby ensuring that the water colour is a unique shade of blue.
  • The coating being cement based dries exceptionally fast allowing for immediate over-coating and same day filling of the pool.
  • The coating is fairly thick that once applied smoothens off the surface removing the sharpness of the surface.

The sequence of the scope of work that will be followed in the pool renovation procedure is:

  • The client is responsible for emptying the water out of the pool.
  • Kusasa will prepare the pool surface as follows:
      • A very high pressure water cleaner will be used to remove all the dirt, grime and entrenched algae off the surface.
      • Any marblelite cracks that are less than 3mm will be opened and filled with our crack repair material. Once cured the repaired area will be sanded flush with the existing surface.
      • The scum line tiles, mosaic tiles on the steps, all inlet pipes to the pool etc will be masked off to eliminate any possibility of contaminating the surfaces with our pool coating.
  • 2 coats of Kusasa Pool Kote will be applied.
  • All masking off material will be removed.
  • Once the application has been completed the pool must be barricaded off so that neither man nor animal makes contact with the newly applied coating. Once the coating has been soiled with dirt the staining will be permanent.
  • The client is responsible for filling of the pool as directed by Kusasa.
  • Special note on filling of the pool with water is that once the filling commences the filling must not be interrupted as dirt on the surface of the water will stain the pool.

A 12 month guarantee is given against peeling of the coating off the surface of the pool.

SPECIAL NOTE:

WHEN KUSASA IS CONTACTED REGARDING THE CONDITION OF SWIMMING POOLS IT IS NORMALLY WHEN THE POOL MARBLELITE BECOMES OLD. WE WILL GUARANTEE OUR PRODUCTS AND WORKMANSHIP HOWEVER THERE HAVE BEEN OCCASSIONS WHEREBY ON APPLICATION OF OUR PRODUCT THE OLD MARBLELITE DELAMINATES IN A PROCESS CALLED “COINING”. WHERE OLD EXISTING MARBLELITE DELAMINATES CAUSING THE NEW COATING TO COME OFF THIS TYPE OF FAILURE IS NOT GUARANTEED AS WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHERE OR WHEN THIS WILL OCCUR. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT PERSPECTIVE CLIENTS ARE MADE AWARE OF THIS.

KUSASA POOL KOTE

Kusasa “Pool Kote” is a 2 part white cement based product that is pigmented white. The two components are mixed together to form a slurry that when applied to a prepared pool surface, smoothens off the rough surface leaving an extremely brilliant white finish on the pool surface.

MIXING OF KUSASA POOL KOTE A standard pool DIY Pool Kit comprises of 2 x 5lt Kusasa Chem Add & 2 x 5.80kg buckets of Pool Kote. This kit is sufficient to apply 2 coats of Kusasa Pool Kote onto a standard 6.0mt x 3.0mt marblelite pool.

Kusasa Paints manufactures a pool renovation DIY product for convention pools of gunite & marblelite.

OUR PRODUCT IS NOT MANUFACTURED FOR APPLICATION ONTO PREVIOULSY PAINTED POOLS OR FIBRE GLASS POOLS.

Our product called “Pool Kote” is applied onto gunite/marblelite pool surfaces where the pool surface has been stained or become very rough.

With all pool surfaces that have become rough the likelihood of algae growth is enhanced and the removal of the algae is very difficult.

The product being cement based is 100% compatible with the existing pool surface that in itself is cement based.

The brilliant white finish gives the water a “Mediterranean Blue” look that is unseen in most pools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Once the pool has been emptied the marblelite surface would need to be cleaned using a high pressure water wash that would:

  • Clean off all the dirt that has accumulated along with looses particles of the originally applied marblelite.
  • Remove the algae that have grown on the rough surface of marblelite.

It must be remembered that the spore of the algae entrenches itself deep into the rough surface of the marblelite and although the surface algae may have been treated the spore is still alive. The use of a high pressure water system removes the algae spore prior to the application of Kusasa “Pool Kote”.

There are chemicals in a highly concentrated that can be used, however Kusasa paints would only recommend the use of such products under highly controlled environment due to the toxicity of the product.

Once the pool has been cleaned the surface must be inspected for any marblelite cracks. These cracks are normally less than 3mm and they may be repaired as follows:

  • Open up the crack in a “V” formation and ensure that the crack is clean & well dusted.
  • Mix Kusasa Marblelite Crack Filler with Kusasa Chem Add at the ratio of 1kg Marblelite Crack Filler to 300ml Kusasa Chem Add to obtain a stiff mix.
  • Fill the cracks with the mixed Marblelite Crack Filler ensuring that the full volume of crack is filled. The product once applied will dry within 30 minutes.
  • Once dry lightly sand the filled area flush with existing substrate.

Using 25mm thick masking tape:

  • Cover all inlet pipes to the pool
  • Cover the scum line tiles at the point where the tiles meet the existing marblelite. This is necessary to avoid contaminating the scum line tiles with Kusasa “Pool Kote”
  • Cover the mosaics in the step sections leading down into the pool.
  • Cover all murals on marblelite surface that do not require to be coated.

A standard pool DIY Pool Kit comprises of 2 x 5lt Kusasa Chem Add & 2 x 5.80kg buckets of Pool Kote. This kit is sufficient to apply 2 coats of Kusasa Pool Kote onto a standard 6.0mt x 3.0mt marblelite pool.

Once the pool has been prepared mix the 1 st kit as follows:

  • Pour the contents of Kusasa Chem Add into a container that will be big enough to hold the entire contents of a kit.
  • Slowly add the Pool Kote powder into the liquid stirring continuously. It would be good practice to purchase a stirrer attachment for a standard drill as use this to mix the 2 components of the pool kit. Using the stirrer blade attachment ensures a smooth lump free mixture.

Kusasa pool Kote is applied in exactly the same manner as conventional paint. Use a 75mm paint brush to cut along all areas of the masking tape and a standard lamb’s wool roller or long pile roller to apply the Pool Kote to the general areas of the pool. The product once applied dry’s very quickly. Once the 1 st coat has dried apply the second coat in exactly the same manner.

Once the 2 nd coat has been applied inspect the finish to ensure all areas of the pool surface have been coated.

At this point no-one (Man or dog) is permitted to enter the pool. Any sections of the newly coated pool surface that gets dirty cannot be cleaned.

Allow the coating to dry for approximately 6-8hours and commence with the filling of the pool.

Ensure that the hose pipe to be used is clean. Place the hose pipe on the floor off the deep end and open the water. Never allow the water to fall from ground level into the pool as the coating has not cured sufficiently to cater for the impact of the water.

Start the pool pump on backwash to remove all the dirty water in the system. Once clean water is discharging re-direct the water into the pool.

Do not commission the automatic cleaning equipment for the 1 st 72 hours.

Adjust the pool water pH to between 7.2 – 7.6 using pool acid.

Introduce chlorine (HTH) and supplement with a floating bouy.

I have been dealing with Rob Harris and his team for more than 30 years, initially as a supplier, and in more recent times as an ordinary homeowner. His knowledge and advice is second to none.
